Michael Farr

Nationally recognized job search expert, best-selling author of more than 20 books, multi-award winner, and founder of JIST Publishing. 

Farr was instrumental in the self-directed career planning and job search movement, and he continues to be recognized as an expert in the field of job search and career building. Farr’s techniques for a better and faster job search have been adopted by job search and career placement programs throughout the United States. He has trained more than 6,000 instructors and trainers in numerous workshops and presentations across the United States and Canada. 

In addition, his job search and career planning books have sold more than 2 million copies. Why is Farr so successful? He offers practical, commonsense advice that gets results. He is the primary author of the Best Jobs series, America’s Top Jobs series, Same-Day Resume, and Seven Steps to Getting a Job Fast.  

Farr has received numerous awards and recognitions. His book The Quick Resume & Cover Letter Book was selected as one of the top three business books by the Publishers Marketing Association. The book spent 10 weeks on National Business Employment Weekly’s best-sellers list. Farr’s Getting the Job You Really Want won the top award in the career category at the 2002 Benjamin Franklin Awards by the Publishers Marketing Association (PMA) in recognition of excellence in independent publishing. 

Farr is also the author of several other award-winning and respected career and job search books, including The Very Quick Job Search (Finalist, 2004 Benjamin Franklin Awards) and Best Jobs for the 21st Century (Finalist, 2002 Benjamin Franklin Awards). Several videos based on Farr’s job search expertise and book content have also won prestigious Telly, Communicator, WorldFest, NY Film Festival, and Videographer awards. 

Farr is a highly sought-after speaker and trainer and is regularly interviewed, featured, and quoted on radio, on television, and in print publications. 

Farr earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Ball State University. 

Farr currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, with his wife.
